Charlie Ottley sets off for South Africa in search of new thrills for the taste buds. Alongside the spectacular scenery he finds both food and wine to match. Beginning with an exploration of the culinary influence of early Dutch settlers, Charlie examines the myriad of influences evident in South Africa's modern day cuisine. Along the way he discovers the miraculous properties of the Rooibos and rustles up an ostrich egg omelette (clue - you don't need many eggs!). However, in a case of role reversal, Charlie has to make sure he doesn't become lunch himself as a pack of stalking Cheetahs pass by at almost touching distance. That's not the only spectacular wildlife Charlie comes across as he sees lions battle with hyenas over their lunch and finds only wire mesh separating him from a Great White Shark. When Charlie heads into the Shamwari Wildlife reserve for a little survival tuition, he learns it's not exactly gourmet fayre; live scorpion and Tabasco Sauce anyone?
